Advanced Spanish Conversation | Language & Culture
Volunteer Teacher
International House DavisVolunteer Teacher | Advanced Spanish Conversation, Languages Program at the International House Davis
September 2014 - May 2016 At the I-House I conduct a weekly session with advanced students introducing topics related with the literature [e.g.: Juan Felipe Herrera, Gabriel García Márquez, Robert Burns, Federico García Lorca, Pablo Neruda, Carlos Giménez, etc.], politics [Colombia Peace Process, the disappeared students from the Ayotzinapa Normal School in Mexico, el canal de Nicaragua, etc.], culture [Mario Moreno ‘Cantinflas’, el albur, las bibliotecas itinerantes por el mundo] and many other topics related with the literature, politics and sociocultural life in the Hispanic-Speaking world. For the I-House Languages Program at Davis, I adopted an approach to teaching adults that draws on a variety of the best practices from my classes, including communicative language teaching, contextualized language instruction, and performance-based voluntary homework. My role as leader allows me to integrate instruction and practice of reading, writing, listening and speaking; utilize authentic materials, language and situations to inform language use in a broad scope of regional and local variations; orient language practice and learning in the contexts of adults’ roles as educators, community members, parents and life-long learners. |
